Insulate Windows to Cut Energy Bills

There are numerous ways to save on energy bills including treatments and covers. Consumers usually aim for window treatment for decoration but they quickly find a major reduction in heat loss in the winter and heat gain in the summer. Keep in mind, window treatments alone aren’t enough to rectify the air leakage and infiltration.

Insulated Drapes

Using drapes not only adds flair to a room but significantly helps with insulation. The thickness or material actually doesn’t make a difference. The key component is implementing a magnet or velcro to make sure there is no cold air seeping through.

Incorporate a Rubber Sealing

Rubber sealing is ideal when it comes to preventing a draft from entering the home. This can be easily purchase from a hardware store and cut into strips to stick into the window frame.

Apply a Plastic FilmĀ

Insulation kits can be purchased at a hardware store as well and shrink down to fit your window. Prior to applying the adhesive backing, let the glass dry first. Begin at the top and work your way down when applying the film so you can avoid air bubbles. Once applied, use a small knife to remove any excess film from your window.
